Legalization of Marijuana

Legalization of Marijuana

Introduction

Legalization of Marijuana is one of the recent phenomena that are being discussed everywhere. As per recent news: “California Medical Assn. Calls for legalization of marijuana” (Anthony York, Los Angeles Times, 2011)

Some people tend to be against it while others are in favor of it. To debate on its legalization, one first needs to understand that what actually is marijuana? Marijuana is a drug in a green, gray or brown mixture of dried, torn flowers and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa, similar to the look of tobacco. It is mainly smoked by rolling it in the tobacco paper called joint. Whereas, it can be also be eaten if pour into brownies and cakes. Marijuana basically works on a person's mind or you can say that it makes you high mentally. There are a lot of common terms for Marijuana such as ganja, hash, cannabis, herb, weed, Mary Jane and chronic. The effect of marijuana lasts on the amount taken but usually it lasts for 3-4 hours. Many people take it to lighten up their mind from stress and anxiety, while others use it for fun. (Timothy, 1999).

Since Marijuana is getting common among people somewhat rapidly, government, scientists, and doctors are taking this phenomena into consideration more seriously and various discussions are taking place all around the world, either make it legalized or not. In my view, the use of Marijuana should be legalized because it has enormous benefits which I would, I like to discuss below in detail.

Discussion

Marijuana usually isn't more injurious than alcohol or tobacco if used in control

Many doctors stated that Marijuana is not injurious up to the extent alcohol and tobaccos are if the use is pretty high. On the other hand, even if one misuse alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, pizza or coffee, the health troubles are certain to follow. Would you like if the administration put a limit on the use of coffee we drink or the cheese we eat? Doctors say that marijuana is not addictive that alcohol or tobacco.

Restraining the utility of drug infringes individual independence

It's right of each individual to choose what troubles him or her. The utility of Marijuana is commonly considered as a “victimless crime” as only the consumer is debilitated. There is no use of legislate ethics when the public disagrees to consider it as ethics.

Legalization would imply a lesser cost; thus, sins like robbery will be decreased

Every prohibited drug is expensive in cost because the making, shipping, and trade of the drugs bring serious risks. Natives who are involve in taking drugs require money for it and the addiction of drugs leads them towards burglary and, additional crimes to raise money to purchase drugs. Legalization would diminish the risks and thus decrease the cost, and there would then be a smaller amount of requirement for the resulting crimes needed to generate money.
