Legalization of Marijuana

Introduction

Enough scientific literature based on evidence has categorically concluded that marijuana is not only addictive, but its usage significantly impairs mental and bodily functions. Use of marijuana has been associated with birth defects, heart disease, immune system deficiencies, cancer, memory loss, among other conditions. Even where marijuana is decriminalized, its trafficking continues to be a source of social disintegration, crime, and violence. Furthermore, some studies on the subject of marijuana have shown that legalization of marijuana provided nowhere close to economic windfall as proclaimed by some of its proponent. There is an ample evidence gathered over a period of time that suggest that legalization of marijuana serves little purpose, rather contributes significantly in worsening the drug problems—death, disorder, violence, addiction, in a state where it gets legal status. Though the marijuana legalization movement is long on rhetoric, by contrast, it is short on facts and has failed to see its destructive impact on the society, especially on youth. The current campaign for the legalization of marijuana effectively downplays the evils of marijuana use and trafficking which are well documented while promises benefits to the society ranging from additional tax revenue to reduced crime. Current campaign specifically appeals to medical community and urges them to utilize this wonderful natural herb to cure the ill. Opponents are of the view that the taxpayer's money that government spends in its efforts to combat the evil of illegal drug trade can better be spend on treatment and substance abuse for marijuana abusers who are quite less in number than drug traffickers. In this essay, we have attempted to bust all these claims from the proponents of legalized marijuana. As this essay details, readers will see that these claims are not only demonstrably false, but the evidence on which they are based in highly dubious. Moreover, supporters of legalized marijuana campaign have failed to see the mechanics of decriminalization and how it will directly affect communities, crime, and law enforcements (Aos et al., Pp.55).

Literature Review

Marijuana is kind of herb that can be used as drug. Research on the use and abuse of marijuana addiction has shown destructive effects on the mental and bodily health. However, a relatively recent campaign has started that calls for legalization of marijuana as it's not good for the health, but will also save billions of taxpayers' dollars that can be used for the common good of the community, according to them. A vast body of scientific research on the use of marijuana and its effects on mental and bodily health of humans has weighed cost and benefits and concluded that legalization of marijuana would compromise public safety and health.

California's voters, if they take a fair-minded look at the evidence and the practical problems of legalization, should reach the same conclusion: Marijuana is a dangerous substance that should remain illegal under state law. The proponents of marijuana legalization need to have a fair minded look on the practical problems and evidence of marijuana legalization. Ample evidence suggests that it's not ...
