Introduction

As my job is a community health nurse (CHN), I will illustrate a personal experience using Gibbs's reflective cycle. It occurred with one of my clients. I would show up my learning and improvement which I gained through this experience. I would reflect upon this incident that how it made me more successful in accomplishing my ideal practice. I would describe my opinion, thinking and approach regarding the event that happened. Moreover, it will show the excellence treatment I provided; the proficiencies that I expanded during my practice and what I discovered from the episode subsequently. For showing how this incident developed and what I learned, I would demonstrate it through GIBBS model. It would guide my reflective process.

For the purpose of this assignment and patient confidentiality, I will call my patient Mr. Francis, in keeping with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) guidelines, as stated in the 'Code of Conduct', which state that all nurses should keep up secrecy. Reflection helps in professional growth, which reveal knowledge and skills required in day by day practice and disclose areas for further maturity. Reflection is a process of organised judgment. It analyses and evaluates the learning process, which develops skills with practice. Reflection significantly considers practice to reveal fundamental knowledge, rationale and influences (Walsh, 2001, pp. 147-178).

Reflection

“Reflection” is a procedure in which the learner could consider as regards and attain an enhanced acquaintance of their performance (Taylor, 2000, pp. 17-56). It is a major approach in which experts may assume on and expand their personal carry out. There are diverse methods to replicate relying on single practitioner predilection. In this assignment, I will demonstrate that I have achieved all the module learning outcomes. I will highlight my learning and development which I gained through this experience. I will reflect upon this incident and how it made me more effective in my practice. I will discuss my opinion, thinking and approach the incident that occurred. To show how this incident developed and what I learned, I will use GIBBS reflective model (1998) to structure the essay (Resuscitation, 2011, pp. 1-2).

Gibbs Reflective Model

Gibbs reflective cycle points out that infant have signalling actions that stimulate the care agent to act on their behalf to fulfil their needs. Nurses should not assume that the infant is totally helpless in expressing his needs, but should have an awareness of the infant's signalling actions. The responses to nursing interventions should be utilized to make care adjustment, teach other caregivers, and initiate advances in care (O'Shea, 2005, pp. 45-117).

A crucial division of “reflective practice” is studying from realistic specialized practice. Practitioners can either remain only in obvious problem solving according to custom or under pressure of work, or rather engage with deeper level, potentially more meaningful and difficult inquiry.
