Left vs. Right Brain and their Impact on Learning

Abstract

In this study we try to explore the “the left and the right parts of the brain” in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on “left and right parts of the brain” and its relation with “an individual's learning process”. The research also analyzes different mechanisms through which “the left and right parts of the brain” regulate their function, and tries to gauge their effect on “different learning styles”. Finally, the study will enlighten different functions of left and right parts of the brain, and explore their significance in an individual's process of learning.

Left vs. Right Brain and their Impact on Learning

Introduction

The brain is part of the central nervous system of vertebrates that are inside the skull. The brain itself is the most voluminous body of the brain. The weight of the brain ranges from 1,150 grams to 1,000 grams in both the genders; men and women. It consists of two cerebral hemispheres divided by a median membrane. The purpose of this paper is to explore the left and right part of the human brain, its composition and its functioning. In addition, the paper will also enlighten the significance of the left and right parts of the brain in the learning process of an individual. Different scientists and researchers have been trying to explore the functions that brain performs.

After several years of research and analysis, there are certain things and functionalities of the brain that are not understood die to its sophisticated structure. The brain is the mass of pinkish-gray tissue composed of about 100,000 million nerve cells which connect to each other. These cells are responsible for controlling all mental functions of the brain. Along with the nerve cells also known as neurons, the brain also contains supporting cells, blood vessels and secretary organs. The brain is also responsible for receiving and interpreting the many signals sent from the external sources.

Discussion and Analysis

Learning through Left and Right Part of the Brain

The function of the brain and very sophisticated to understand; despite the intense research and exploration of the brain function; there are certain things about brain that scientists are still not aware of. The functioning of the brain is based on the two hemispheres; right and left hemispheres, and the overlying cortex (Koslow, Huerta, 1997). The right hemisphere receives, develops and expresses the sensory and spatial information. It is responsible for the visual activity, the imaginary processes and the creativity of each individual. The right hemisphere is also related to art conceptions and in all its manifestations inside the brain. The left hemisphere receives, develops and expresses the conceptual information. The left hemisphere is responsible for the logical, mathematical, analytical and verbal activities performed (Koslow, Huerta, 1997). The left hemisphere is rational also known as critical hemisphere ...
