Biography of Michael Gazzaniga

Michael Gazzaniga is a PhD from the California Institute of Technology, in Psychobiology. He worked under Roger Sperry at CIT reaserching on human brain-split. Gazzaniga has made remarkable advances in explaining functional liberalization of brain and the communication take place between cerebral hemispheres. He is author of many books such as Nature's Mind and Mind Matters, and also made appearance in the public TV specials. His works, The Mind and The Brain has provided remarkable insights about functioning of our brain. His work has supported basic science and clinical research (Gazzaniga, 2009).

Gazzaniga has published many scholarly works including The Cognitive Neurosciences, in 1995. The book was published by the MIT press. Today, his book is considered as basis for the research in Neurosciences. Gazzaniga's long mentoring and teaching career also include starting the Neuroscience Institute, the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, mentoring the work and encouraging many young scientists in the field of neurosciences, and developing Centers for Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of California, Dartmouth and Davis. He also provides advisory to the institutes undertaking brain research. He is a member of Bioethics Council. At present, he is conducting on how brain facilitates mind. This research is based on assessing population through anatomy, brain imaging and visual psychophysics (Gazzaniga, 2009).

Components of the Learning and Cognition Model

Research by Gazzaniga let to a study of brain hemispheres and communication between them. The current research is focusing on how brain relates with emotion, reasoning, memory, and other elements of cognition.
