Introduction

Leadership models help in understanding the behavior of the leaders. It assists organizations and managers evaluating the actions of a leader in any given situation. Leadership models explain why a manager as a leader adopts various positions and roles, as every situation requires a leader to act in a certain manner. When businesses go for developing and promoting leaders, they have to be careful in doing so, as putting the wrong person for the position of a leader can sabotage the overall performance and culture of the organization, (Leithwood, 1992). The knowledge of a leader is just not enough for leading the team members in an organization; however the leader's ability to judge his members and make them do the work in the right direction with the achievement of the targets is what matters, as it speaks about the worth of a person as a leader, (Snowden, 2007). This paper focuses on the types of leadership models, and how these models can be used for the current educational settings. The models that are discussed in this paper are the managerial grid and the four framework approach model.

According to the studies conducted by the Ohio State University and the University of Michigan, there are two kinds of leadership behaviors that are essential in leadership skills. The former came up with two leadership behaviors; consideration-a relationship behavior that promotes trust and respect, and initiating structure-a task oriented behavior that focuses on scheduling and organizing. The later identified two behaviors; employee orientation- involving the managers to deal with the employees with human relations, and production orientation- focusing more on the technical and the production aspects of the job.
