Leadership Qualities in Nursing

Nursing is a dynamic profession and practice of this occupation is in constant change, as it is based on providing care to the healthy or ill, the family and the community as a bio-psychosocial, which involves the relationship of scientific knowledge and practice (Van, 2004, 165).

Traditionally considered to nurses as having valuable qualities include respect for the human being, sensitivity, responsibility, honesty, courtesy, based on the determination of a pool of potential human values that can conform the model of the human profile that characterize this personnel, according to the real scenario of the community(HFMA, 2008).

Following are the qualities that a nurse should possess:

Being part of the interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral team participating in the comprehensive care of people, families and communities.

Individual's health care in a personalized, comprehensive, continuous, respecting their values, customs and beliefs.

Participate in the preparation, analysis and discussion of the health situation of the population, identifying vulnerable groups, risk factors and implementing actions to their decline and / or disposal.

Implement actions that provide solutions to health problems identified in the Situation Analysis of Health.

Participate in surveillance programs established by the NHS.

Implement actions included in health programs that provide solutions to community problems.

Other responsibilities include empowering employees.
