Introduction

John Salka has worked with City of New York fire department with more than 30 years and, currently a battalion chief in the 18th Battalion in Bronx. He is the author of “First In, Last Out, leadership lessons”. As we all know, that the fire department of the city of New York is the effective department in the world. The effectiveness of this department is due to its leadership style which mainly focuses “first in - last out”. The leader of the fire team is always the first to enter the burning building and, last to come out of the building. People of the team always know that their leader is at their side, at the time of danger. The team is strongly motivated to work under such leader. Team always feel motivation to work under the supervision of a leader, who is dedicated to the job and, do actions according to his strong views and mind setting.

The book written by John Salka describes that, leadership is the ability to lead a team which can be based on number of team members either technical, non technical, managerial, non managerial and other staff. The leadership's ability is also dependent on various key skills. A leader always wants that, people follow him not because of the fear of the leader but, feeling of respect cause people to follow his ways. We can found leadership in each sector or organization and, in different fields. Without leadership, an organization is blind and, cannot produce any outcomes. Leadership is always selected by employer and top management. Leader should possess such skills which can be implemented, where ever required. It has been researched that successful leaders did not take any special training from any institution. The book reflects certain attributes of a leader and, leadership lessons.

Decision making capability

The book revealed that, one of the most important key skills in a team leader is decision making capability because, leadership enhance a clear vision in order to achieve specific targets. If a team leader has good decision making capability then, it will affect the performance of the team as well as the whole organization. Team leader also needs other people's skills because, team leader needs to motivate the team and achieve the mission with the help of other employees.

Problem solving ability

Team leader should not afraid of any of these problems, and followers of Team leader should also not afraid and, feel free to discuss with Team leader.
