Book Selected

Many classical and current books are available on “Leadership”. Among them some are great leadership books in their own way and some have simply made us change our perspective. Of all the books, the one which I have selected is: “Inside the leader's mind: Five ways to think like a leader.” written by Liz Mellon in the year 2011.

Introduction of the Book

“Inside the leaders mind” tells us about the five simple ways to think like an effective leader. After taking into account the wisdoms of 20 best leaders of the world, this book comes up with the concepts and ideas to evolve our thinking and to guides us towards the better leadership. The book consists of real leadership stories, compiled from world class leaders, which gives you an insightful perspective of becoming a successful leader. The writer, Liz Mellon, interviewed some of the top CEOs and gathered their passionate leadership stories in this book and shows us the five major characteristics of effective leaders.

Inside the leader's Mind is an important contribution in the field of studying effective leadership skills. Mostly the books on this topic gives us the stories or shows us the traits or behaviors of effective leaders, however, this book explains the thinking of an effective leader. This book reminds us the thinking part of leaders; how leaders think and then behave in a ways to achieve success. The book does not tell us just the behavior of a leader, which we can observe by our own self, but the thinking behind leader's behavior.

In this book, the writer makes us understand the way of leading by telling us how the great leaders think. Of course the behavior of a leader depends on the way he/she thinks. The writer, Liz Mellon, has differentiated the real leaders and the ones who are at the top positions in the company but are not effective leaders. The writer takes us into the minds of the top leaders and gives us the chance to learn from them. This book illustrates how successful leaders really think differently from other managers. Some people are born leaders and some cultivate leadership skills of an effective leader. This book helps us to cultivate or polish our leadership skills in an authentic way. Hence, Inside the Leader's Mind shares with us the real experiences of world class leaders, gives us the knowledge regarding issues that can be faced by emerging leaders and last but far from least, gives us the advice of how we can be an effective and skilled leader.
