School Leaders and Their Leadership

Introduction

School leadership is a key factor for the development of education quality. In education, the growing emphasis on school-based management product is on the different processes of decentralization in which it has transferred more authority to schools and directors in charge of them-as well as parents and family-has highlighted the need for exercise greater leadership by school principals (Gibb 1954). On the other hand, the effect of the leadership of school principals in educational quality and learning has placed the school leadership in the center of the current educational debate.

According to Leithwood et al. (2000), among the six requirements identified for the school-based management result in quality improvements must be accompanied by management strategies that will invigorate and leadership skills. Also, Robinson (2008) highlights the leadership of teachers as a key factor in making the school as an organization with a culture of quality education.

A high-quality school leadership is to transform feelings, attitudes and opinions, and practices in order to improve school culture. At the same time, it recognizes that in isolated schools with scarce resources can be much lower than in schools with more favorable socioeconomic contexts.

Discussion

There are three leaders at my school. The best thing about them is that they represent the cultural of the school. On top of the leaders is a Hispanic female, followed by the Caucasian female. On the third level, there is an African American female. The only downfall that I feel we have is that we do not have a male in our administration. We work with so many males where they are missing male figures in their lives. It would be great for them to have someone took look up to for guidance. Yes, we do have male teachers and coaches, but they are not always aware of things that the administrator has privileges to.

The entire school is run on Participative Leaders Theory and Distributed Leadership Theory. On top is our Hispanic female and prior to becoming a principal, she began her career as a nurse. Next she became an English teacher, and then she became an administrator. She generally relates to our recent immigrates due to the fact she was once in their shoes. She is bi-lingual and is able to speak the language of students, as well as, their parents. She understands their cultural environment that how to ask a question without crossing cultural barriers. There is no one who is effective in her area of responsibility. She knows and understands her staff. She uses Participative Theory to keep her staff involved, but she also chooses wisely who she wants for whatever issues her working on at that time. If she wants the entire school to buy into something she picks people that are most like and respected to meet with her and hear the proposal.
