Introduction:

The management system of any institution serves as a process for directing and controlling people and work, so that organizational goals are achieved. An integral part of the management system is supervision, which refers to overseeing of people, their performance and behavior in the work environment. This activity tends to take place in all the levels of organization with the exception of the work level (Iannone, 2009).

Moreover, a management system prevails in almost every organization and institution. If we examine the supervision of police personnel, we find that they have a hierarchy, first line workers and supervisors, just like a corporate organization. The police personnel like to be led by those who have them in confidence and give them respect. The supervisory office must apply the principle of wholesome human relations with common sense so that he is able to cater to his subordinates needs and queries (Iannone, 2009).

Moreover, the supervisor needs to be thoroughly versed with the functions and operations of his local subdivision of the government and should have an understanding of its relationship with the units and their relationship with the government. Also he needs to be familiar with the local political atmosphere although he must avoid political entanglements and alliances as they might affect his official duties. Moreover, he needs to keep himself well equipped about the function, jurisdictions and authority of the persons occupying the diverse positions in his organization and the others related so we can carry out his duties with ease and efficiency (Shane, ...
