Thesis statement

“Nursing requires leadership skills to serve the community in the best possible manner”

Introduction

In this era when methods are more complicated than before, in all domains ranging from business management to education, travel and tourism, construction, technology, healthcare and all other fields, it has increasingly become necessary that the resources involved are managed well. Efficient management of resources is not only confined to material resources but is more essential for the management of human resource, which is an essential asset for any business, irrespective of the domain in which it is operating. This requires expertise of the leaders and their skills to make the human resource business in the most appropriate method to deliver the desired results. Leadership skills are an important aspect when healthcare is considered. In the domain of healthcare, the role of nurses can be seen as that of prominent leaders. As education management in nursing encompasses helping the students recognize their responsibilities, and guiding them to fulfill their duties dedicatedly, and in the most appropriate method, it requires critical thinking and strategic planning to be made by the instructor. Choosing to specialize in nursing and obtaining a practical knowledge, then converting that knowledge into skills which could further help others to flourish, demands hard work, personal sacrifice, and commitment to a vision. It also demands an energetic, entrepreneurial, and innovative support system. Hence, it is imperial that nurses model the leadership behaviors and methods which can allow the development of a healthcare team, which is proactive and supportive. An efficient method to provide leadership to the nursing students and the office staff I nursing is via the implementation of "Five Exemplary Practices of Leadership" developed by Kouzes and Posner (2011). This model can be applied to engage the nursing students and office staff in nursing to enable them to focus their actions on the vision, mission, and organizational culture needed to excel.
