Introduction

Leadership is an important management function that helps in maximizing efficiency and achievement of organizational goals. Good leaders are not born and are made. If one has the willpower and desire, one can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a continued process of education, training, experience and self-study (Jago 1982, pp. 315-336).

The study is based on the leadership role and strategies that I need to perform in order to lift the business performance and the capability of our regional office. The need for motivation and effective communication in the company to generate staff awareness of KTG business goals, values and policies will also be discussed in detail.

Leadership Concepts and Theories

According to the operational review of the region, KTG's CEO found that the region has been underperforming. As the regional head of the current region, in order to lift the business performance as a leader my first priority would be the strategic planning for my regional office. My job will be to create the desired future for the company. I need to intimately involve with the strategic direction of KTG. In order to boost the performance and capability of the regional office to at least company average, I have to consider ethics and integrity as crucial element for effective running of the operations of the regional office. In order to make people of the company aware of their roles and responsibilities, as a regional head, I have to treat the employees in terms of paying attention to the non monetary needs of the workers that will eventually help to transform from the transactional motivation to transformational motivation (Riggio 2009, n.d).

As a leader, the actions that I propose to take to establish my leadership effectively in the region and to address the issues identified specifically in the CEO's review, I need to undertake certain leadership roles. The leadership roles that I will undertake to leverage the performance at regional office would be

Democratic Style of Leadership

In order to effectively manage the business operations in the region and to address the problems and issues that are highlighted in the CEO's review, I will implement the democratic style of leadership in the regional office. With the help of democratic leadership style, I will be able to drive the performance of the employees in a much better way. This will help me to encourage group participation among different groups and decisions would be made on the opinion of group members. I will not simply rule over my employees in the region, by force and command rather I will form good relations with employees through support and motivation. As in KTG, the level of expertise of employees is very good, the problem lies because of mismatch between the current expertise and growth potential in the region. Through encouraging participants to discuss the issues in group and making decisions on census will help me to access full potential of the expertise of employees.
