Introduction

The main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on the case study of Mrs. Jackson. The case discusses the Based on the case study of Mrs. Jackson; the paper makes discussion on the type of the power which is being used in the situation of Mrs. Jackson and the consequences of having a strong, negative leader. The paper also makes discussion on the reaction of the staff in these situations and the recommendations for Mrs. Jackson to improve her management style.

Case Study

The case study is about a nurse manager named Mrs. Jackson. The case study is about the leadership style of Mrs. Jackson. Mrs. Jackson had the dictating style for the purpose of dealing with the staff. She used to degrade the staff by her superior attitude. She also used to show the favoritism and gave favors to the staff members she liked. Whenever, any staff member used to bring his problem in front of her, Mrs. Jackson used to increase their work hours instead of solving the problems. As a result of such behavior, the conditions in the area were deteriorating and the attitude of Mrs. Jackson was getting worse day by day. This paper deals with the recommendations to Mrs. Jackson in order to improve her leadership style.

Leadership Style followed by Mrs. Jackson

The leadership style followed by Mrs. Jackson in this paper is the dictatorial and authoritative leadership style. In this leadership style, the leader tries to impose his power on the subordinates. Dictatorial style is the one in which the manager is all about himself, employees perform under the threat of sanctions. Authoritarian leadership is recommended only in emergency situations that require immediate reaction and could endanger the safety of employees. However, most of the daily office situations are not really real emergencies. The leader using this style tends to think: "This emergency is so important that we do not really care what you can feel now. Your problems are not ours." The authoritarian leader ignores the emotional reality; shows little empathy often gives orders. This model has a very negative impact on the culture. To avoid negatively impacting the work environment, this style should be used for short-term and specific situations. It is important to inform subordinates immediate reactions required to lessen the frustrations that may arise. However, this is the worst leadership style which is being used by the different leaders.

Consequences of Negative Leadership Style on the Subordinates

In this case study, Mrs. Jackson was using the negative leadership style. She used to dictate her subordinates. However, the researches show that the negative leadership styles bring the negative consequences on the working attitudes of the sub ordinates. The more effective the leadership style, the more effective will be its outcomes. As a result of the negative leadership style, the motivation and the performance level of the employees decline.
