Trait theory

There is a defined trait model of leader which is based on some particular characteristics of different leaders. The trait model is designed on the basis of some successful as well as unsuccessful leaders which are considered to be the role model for the trait theory. This theory is used to bridge the characteristics of the theory to the effectiveness of the leader. There are certain characteristics of the leader which increases its effectiveness. There are a lot of examples of these leaders which helps and support to design different traits which can be included in the theory. There are a lot of evidences which can support the leader to make him well efficient on the basis of his traits.

The theory of trait gives many productive details about leadership. These details can be applicable on the peoples at any position at almost all kinds of organizations. The trait theory helps in an immense way to the manager in order to analyze their position in the organization and they can also examine different ways of making their position stronger. This theory is also known as leader maker which assist a manager to perform in an outclass way. All the way through in the career of the manager it helps and supports him to deal with different affairs in an organization. In other words, the trait theory gives full detail about the upcoming happening and makes the manager well aware to face different problems at all levels (Zigarmi, 1985).

Functional theory

The functional theory is one of the most important theory of leadership which gives many details about the functions and operations of the leader. There are many ways which can be very much useful to conduct a measurement of a leader in terms of its function. More often, the functional theory deals with the functions performed by the leader or a manager of an organization. In large unions, the effectiveness of collective action requires a clear functional role differentiation and specialization, as well as the efficiency of control and rigidity of subordination, institutionalization and formalization (formalized), the leading positions, giving them relatively more power required.
