Leadership

Introduction

Indeed, there have been many schools of thoughts that have said to emerge from a single concept of leadership. The definition of leadership is based on personal attributes along with qualities that has been on priority when it comes to addressing the subject of leadership. Initially it was perceived that leadership is said to be an attribute that is innate by nature or inherited and is not a trait that can be learnt. This school of thought also faces a lot of criticism. The opposition stated the fact that it is just not the personal characteristics but it is also the behavior that a leader has along with the situations as well as the context in which it develops. Thus, research also shows that individual can exercise leadership on the premise of adjusting his behaviors and attitudes along with the context in which an individual operates. Effective leadership consists of the ability to generate on the subordinates that result in the change of behaviors and attitudes, which is also based on what the leader transmits. Organizations as well as companies who have effective leaders cannot achieve the desired or the forecasted productivity until and unless the leaders have the ability to influence as well as engage their subordinates and colleagues towards one common mission and vision of the organization. Leaders who are unable to influence their employees are more likely to reap lower contributions and will result in lower level of innovation. Later many studies as well as professional interventions took place in the arena of human resources conducting organizational analysis resulting in key conclusions identifying modes to achieve effective leadership in any company or organization (Shivers 2004, 47).
