Le Corbusier

Background

Le Corbusier was born in 1887 in the town of Shu de Fu in western Switzerland. Apart from being an architect and urban planner, he was also a leader of the modernist trend in the 20th century. He was also an artist of furniture design and painting. He died in 1965, but his work started to reflect after his death and proved the following facts about him. He lived and settled in the 30s in France which was occupied by Germany during World War II. Le Corbusier offered his services to the regime of Vichy, who collaborated with the Nazis, and worked as a planner Cities.

His real name was Charles Edouard Jeanneret. He established the basic principles of construction technique and functional rationalist who influenced the development of architecture from the 20s. He discovered new forms of concrete to make the walls lighter, little support for sustained, finding solutions that allowed to erect a building on the land and create curtain walls. He used the cube as a base, with a predominance of flat roofs and large windows, introducing the prefabricated elements. Corbusier was married to Yvonne Gali, Monaco, whom he met in Paris in 1922,and the marriage was officially issued in 1930. That same year, Le Corbusier took French citizenship. In 1940 Le Corbusier studio was closed, and he and his wife moved to a farm far from Paris. In 1942, made an official visit to Algeria, due to urban development projects of Algiers. Back in the same year in Paris, in the absence of orders he studied the theory, and wrote books.

Precedence

With the money in the years of 1907-1912, he made a study tour to Europe, where he studied traditional and modern architecture, has received master classes from leading architects of the time Y.Hofmana, O.Perre and P.Berensa. Like his contemporaries, he was constantly experimenting, sought to master their material, to find the best methods for their use, develop the most economical to standardize the design and industrial production. Le Corbusier was an engineer and not thought out architecture engineering. For him, architecture was the first kingdom of precise mathematical calculations.
