This has been a known factor that genetics play a major role in defining the quality of life and health in the late adulthood years. But, the individuals who are able to change their destructive lifestyles and adopt healthier options shall experience better health with a sense of belonging and wellbeing during the later stages of life (Neuspiel & Kuller, 1985). This is when, the adults enjoy a healthy lifestyle and remain socially active by being involved in everyone's life and play a vital role in the family. The individuals must ensure that they avoid stereotyping and the negativity attached to ageisms which become major factors leading to the decline of a human being (Neuspiel & Kuller, 1985). Ageism and Stereotypes Associated with Late Adulthood

The American culture promotes various stereotypes and negativity about the older citizens of the society. Many of the stereotypical views have been considered to be just jests, but many have portrayed a negative perspective leading to the inability of an adult to perform anything and become impotent and incompetent (Chapin et al., 2002). There is a big call for removing the negative thoughts and biasness over ageism. These only threaten the adult and the elderly and leads to a cognitive decline of the individual as the society is already embedded with mixed views about the concept. It has been widely studied that societal attitudes have a major impact on maintaining the sense of importance and self-confidence in the individual (Chapin et al., 2002). Negative thoughts and perceptions like ageism make the elderly appear incompetent and less intelligent, despite of the fact that they are very smart and clever. When aging adults are fearful about the stereotypes, there is a possibility that those fears shall take over the mind and undermine thinking and perceptions. This creates confidence problems, impairity and negative perceptions leading to negative responses to everything affects the cognitive abilities of the adults. It is must for their health and wellbeing to avoid stereotypes and attitudes that reflect negative beliefs and biases toward the abilities of this age group (Neuspiel & Kuller, 1985).
