Factors Influencing Language Development

In language development exists a genetic influence, seen in the correlation between the intelligence of parents and the speed at which their children develop their communication skills during the first year of life. The temperament (which may also be innate) exercises, in turn, influence the language development of infants. Children who are interested in other people, who have partners and are happy at the age of two years, move faster than others in the way they express themselves, and they respond well to what others say. Children who shown more extrovert behavior attract people who want to talk to them and, thus, give them more opportunities to communicate.

The behavior of people around the child also exerts an influence. Parents and adults in general, tend to speak to children in a language peculiar, especially aimed at babies. They use a higher pitch, use short sentences, ask questions and frequently repeat words (Oates & Grayson, 2004). This type of language directed to the child helps adults and children to establish a relationship, teaches children to hold a conversation, taught to use new words, build sentences and propose ideas. Since the topics covered are simple, children can use their knowledge of family issues to help establish the meaning of the words they hear. In studies of twins, it has been found that twins often talk later than children born alone. Because of the extra work involved with twins, mothers of these children speak less often, they pay less attention and hold shorter conversations. When they talk to their children, are more focused on what you tell them to do, instead of asking questions or comments. This way of speaking fluency stimulates children less.

Other studies have found that having an adult talking to a child is also important. For example, if the adult encourages the child to speak in ways that go beyond the level of competency of the child at the time, he is motivating the next level of language skills. Some researchers argue that children speak sooner and better if they hear a more complex discourse in adults. In fact, children discover the rules of language more quickly if they hear complex sentences using these rules more often.

One should be sure to ensure that the methodology and technology of education is not only fully consistent with age features, but also the functionality of the child. That is, the methodology is relevant for children from 4 to 6 years, will be completely ineffective in the case of student learning.
