A popular perception is that media violence affects the individual's behavior, causing them to become more aggressive and hostile. Some parents' groups, psychologists, religious organizations, or politicians are criticizing video games in the media for the level of violence, cruelty, and crime. If parents would just be less inactive in what they watch and play this wouldn't be a problem. Violence in the media would only cause a small amount of influence to children's violent ways. The tests the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) makes are inaccurate and covering up the points that prove wrong. (Anderson, 45)
Violence in the media
Even though television and video games have not been out to long, but the technology has changed so much, which also means the media viewed have changed, which means disputes and problems arose. In 1976, it all started when the game "Death Race", where players drive around in a car, in order to run down "gremlins", became the first controversy of weather video games was effecting children for aggressive behavior. Ever sense complains have started the congress, courts and the FCC have been trying to stop indecency on TV. In 1996, the Congress added the V-chip provision in the Telecommunications act, which protected what was shown on TV and resulted to not be that effective. The V-chip was a program-blocking device that controlled the ratings. The act required all new models to have the V-chip installed. The TV industry opposed to the V-chip but never wanted to fight it and agreed to it. (Anderson, 45)
Many people but not me believe that the violence in the media is influencing children for violent ways, which has all started this controversy. They believe laws making it a crime to broadcast obscure and profane language can be written in ways that do not violate free speech standards.
They say that repeated media violence exposure increases aggression across life span because it gives the vision of violence being positive and desensitizes of normal negative reaction to violence being positive and desensitizes of normal negative reaction to violent scenes and do not become bothered by it. (Anderson, 45) Research says that in an estimate of 70% of children ages 2 to 18. Play video games that more than 70% of the American teenage boys who play "Grand Theft Auto" are more likely to be in a fight then others who haven't played. Although, obscured that's what they think. Nothing can be proved by little tests, which are over exaggerated.
Others and I believe that it is obscured that the media influences violent aggression on children. Despite what the promoters say, making it a crime to broadcast bad language violates free speech of the first amendment. The schools might be okay to disallow obscure material because of more power, but that doesn't mean outside of the school. (Anderson, 98)
Violence has not always been from TV, video games and the Internet. Many classic pieces of literature, poetry, and every art form have much violent content. Would it be wrong to censor ...
