LAN with Two Subnets

Introduction

Local area network which is commonly referred to as LAN is the network working within a small area. Based over the name, LAN covers the network that is based over a locality. LAN can be created without too many restrictions based over the number of computers configured and to upto two more of up to a few hundred units. Generally geographical distance of LAN can be formed within a few meters to 10 kilometers. Local Area Network can be formed in a building or a unit, where there is no routing problem, and does not include the application of the network layer (Palesi, 2006). LAN is one of the most commonly used network that in today's world is mostly used by service providers to create networks in different localities

This network is characterized by: a narrow range of connection, the number of users is less easy configuration, connection rate. LAN fastest rate to calculate today's 10G Ethernet. IEEE 802.xx Standards Committee defines a variety of major LAN network: Ethernet (Ethernet), token ring network, Fiber Distributed Interface the networking (FDDI) network of asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and the latest wireless local area network (WLAN). These will be described in detail later (Marescaux, 2007).

Designing a Network

The local network that has been selected consists of two subnets and 50 users on the whole. Through this 25 users would be allocated over one subnet along with a switch and 25 users would be allocated to the other subnet with another switch. Based over the requirements both of the subnets would also need separate IP address for printers for the users. For this regards the ip addresses would be based over the class C IP address so that they can be properly allocated for usage without ...
