12 Design Principles Based on Brain-based Learning Research

Brain based learning is defined as understanding the relationship between the educational environment and the complexities of the brain. In order to be able to perform brain based learning it is essential to firstly acquire basic information about the specific areas of the brain that are affected, then alter the classroom in order to create a positive learning experience. Much emphasis is being placed on the fact that instructors need to familiarize themselves with brain based learning in order to increase the students overall efficiency (Erlauer, 2003)

Lackney further elaborates by mentioning the required teaching architecture which will help the students stimulate their brains and create a positive learning environment, students are encouraged to adapt to various different learning places, he stresses that there is a necessity to help the brain develop by utilizing the city and natural environments as an effective learning setting, schools should be conceptualized as the learning needs supplements for the whole learning process throughout various learning environments. The usage of brain based learning should be kept in mind when designing classrooms and building schools.

The importance of brain based learning was recognized by understanding how children are encouraged to learn new languages when they are young since they are experiencing what neuroscientists refer to as the window of opportunities. Every brain is unique and how they interact with environments, the brain is indeed a vast neural nucleus that can be used or allowed to go to waste. Some of the instructing methodologies are being rendered obsolete since more focus is now being given to learning activities that help the mind grasp knowledge faster than any other method. Much emphasis is being laid on brain based learning activities which tend to have a far more positive impact on the brain than other learning methodologies.

To summarize brain based learning we need to understand that firstly the brain's thoughts, perceptions, emotions all operate simultaneously and good teaching should influence that. The next principle states that the physical health of a child his sleep, nutrition directly affect the brain. The brain naturally looks for meaning of everything. Therefore teachers need to focus on creating a positive learning environment. The brain has multiple patterns f information in the brain and he tries to make sense of them by creating patterns. When teachers create a pattern between one topic and another it helps the students understand the pattern of learning. Students have emotional attachments with those around them. Instructors need to make the student use both left and right side of the brain .Peripherals play a vital role in learning. Teachers should try to affect the unconscious learning process.
