Introduction

The concept of mobility of labor refers to the ability and willingness of workers (or labor), to function between different occupations and locations geographically. If the change doesn't alters the job, grading or status of the individual than this type of movement is called horizontal analysis, where as if there is a change in the grading, job, or status of the individual, it is called vertical analysis.

Generally it is seen that labors which are skilled have low occupational mobility compared to the unskilled labor force. Low levels of labor mobility causes problems such as structural unemployment for the governments, and in order to counter the problem the governments practice retaining schemes and by encouraging new industries to establish.

Generally, the concept of international mobility refers to the movements of workers between different states. The movement of the workforce is essentially relied upon the different types of workforce requirement in different countries. The economists argue that, the process of migration of the labor force should have an equaling effect in the long run on the wages of the labor force, with different individuals in different parts of the world but in the same industry earning the same amount of income.

In this research, I will be reviewing various migration trends as they refer to mobility of labor in the US. Along with this I will be discussing different legislations by the governments and their effect, and also what the economists have to say about the type of labor mobility practiced in this region. US is a country which has always been diffident in the number of workers available, with the huge amount of capital and land at stake, the history of US shows an overwhelming increase in the amount of migration which the US has faced over the years. .

Labor mobility and migration trends

In 1965 the Immigration Act was made, this opened up gates of US(Unites States) with regards to immigrants which belong to Nations that were nearly excluded from 1920s, along with this came an expansion in the foreign-born inhabitants.
