Kangaroo Mothers

Introduction

Mother and infant separation at the time of post is the common issue in the Western Culture. Early skin to skin contact which is termed as SSC initially begins when baby takes birth and, it is covered with a warm blanket, on the mother's bare chest. When considering the mammalian neuroscience, intimate contact inherent in this place considers the biological needs (Teckenberg-Jansson et al, 2011). The first study involves the objectives to investigate the early skin to skin contact on breastfeeding, behavior and psychological adoption in kangaroos. For this purpose, thirty studies were conducted that involved 1925 participants. Data were available for only 8-64 outcomes measures.

In this study, significant and positive effects of early SSC on breastfeeding at the starting months were observed. Research has provided a deep conclusion that Kangaroo care may provide a half solution the care should indicate the close mother or newborn bonding, breastfeeding and skin to skin contact. This paper aims to compare and contrast two relevant articles on Kangaroo care that has been aim to reduce the risk of illness and mortality rate in new born. I will compare these two articles: Flacking, R., Ewald, U., & Wallin, L. (2011). Positive effect of kangaroo mother, care on long-term breast feeding in very different infants. Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Neonatal Nursing , 40(2):190 and, Blomqvist, T. Y. & Nyqvist, K. H. (2011). Swedish mothers' experience the feelings of Kangaroo Mother Care. Journal of Clinical Nursing , 20(9-10):1472-80.

Discussion

The first article selected the Kangaroo babies of 6 months to 8 months because, it is a longitudinal study. The study is telling about the breastfeeding problems; such as breast engorgement, infant latch on difficulties, sore nipples. This study aims to highlight breast milk maturation, changes in infant physiological features during and after skin-to-skin contact such as; temperature, heart rate and glucose.

The first article is highlighting the advantages

Increasing the mother-child bond;

Shorter mother-child separation, avoiding long periods without sensory stimulation;

Encouraging breastfeeding, favoring higher frequency, earliness and duration;

Increased competence and confidence of parents in the management of his son, low birth weight, even after discharge;

Improved thermal control;

Fewer newborns in intermediate care units, due to increased turnover of beds;

Improved family relationship with the health care team;

Decrease of infection;

Shorter hospital stay.

This article is helpful in providing:Advise the mother and family about the health of the child Emphasize the importance of always acting mother and family in the child's recovery. After delivery, the first five days should be used to teach all these to the mother and family.  After a period of adaptation and training, the mother and the child will be able to remain in the position where rooming kangaroo will be held as long as possible.

The attitude of promoting early skin to skin contact between the mother and her developing baby showed greater bonding and better child development. Since then, the act of loading the premature newborn against the mother's breast conquered the world.
