Executive Summary

In the recent decades, Microsoft failed at every segment it tried to enter, whether it is social networking, music, electronic books or search engine. It is the management techniques deployed by Microsoft that are cited as the prime reason behind the problems plaguing Microsoft. Stack ranking is the technique that is used by Microsoft for the purpose of ranking employees across the scale of good, average and poor performers. This process is extremely destructive as it promotes competition within the team and not with other players in the industry. Furthermore, positive evaluations and grading of employees is attached with brown nosing and politicizing, and this drives genuine hard workers into resigning, or results into having them leave because of low reviews. The problem lies with the senior management of the corporation, and hence they need to requisite our 'Senior Management Development Program'. New performance appraisal system is the need which should be a combination of judgmental factors and factual, however the level of judgment is important to be exceeded.

It is the management practices that have been cited by numerous researchers as the main factor behind their demise. The management system is so designed that it does not promote creativity which is of pivotal importance in the industry of communication and technology where the innovation clock speed is highest and the market players who consider that could succeed in the domain. Since the year 2000, it is seen that Microsoft failed at every segment it tried to enter, whether it is social networking, music, electronic books or search engine. Problem Statement

This process is extremely destructive as it promotes competition within the team and not with other players in the industry. This does not promote innovative and creative culture.
