Jules Vern Biography

Jules Vern was basically a French novelist, born in 1828 as the eldest son of a provincial lawyer. He is known for his unique style of writing, and he is among the pioneers of modern science fiction. His novels mainly dealt with science and technology, which was an innovative technique at that time, and Jules Vern mainly dealt with the technical achievements and advancements that fell within the grasp of human beings at that time. All of his novels and works were later translated in several other languages, including English, thus causing him to gain international fame and popularity.

Jules Vern was born in 1828 and had an uneventful childhood, with no major achievement and as such no basic entertainment. At the age of twelve, however, Jules Vern got a chance to sail on an ocean- going three- master vessel as a cabin boy (Verne, 1976). Although the parents didn't approve of the journey and also tried to stop him from going ahead, but he was finally allowed when he assure his parents that this would be his first and last journey, and in future he would be travelling only in his dreams. The promise was indeed fulfilled by the writer, in an outstanding manner that his parents could not have predicated at that time. It was the same imagination and the journeys through times that allowed Jules Vern to gain international fame, which is still possessed by him.

It is eminent to mention here that despite getting a in law, Jules Vern was always interested in literature and even at the time of pursuing career in law, he was secretly planning a career in literature as well. He decided to opt for play writing and his first play was produced in 1850, and is known as Broken Straws. Although the play was not a record breaker at that time, it was still good to start with and the career of Jules Vern began from that play.
