Problem Statement
A number of occupations and professions exist in the society in order to ensure provision of the justice, security as well as protection to the citizens, and at the same time, to assist the concerned individuals in making governmental decisions and at the same time, providing assistance in formulation of policies and other governmental schemes (Steiner, Travis & Makarios, 2011). The probation and parole officers are also included in the same category, playing their part in the criminal justice system. These individual have a number of tasks and jobs owned by these individuals, including the process of supervising the ex-offenders and at the same time, playing an eminent role in making recommendations to the court of law (Matz & Kim, 2013).
It is eminent to mention here that the job is both demanding and complex, and thus in order to ensure that the employee retention rate remains constant and the employees remain satisfied with their job, it is essential to ensure that their needs and demands are being met in the right and appropriate manner (Kelly & Fader, 2012). On one hand, the probation and parole officers have the tough and demanding task of keeping a check on the society, and on the other hand, the same are also required to make sure that the right and appropriate suggestions are made to the court of law, thus providing justice to the concerned individuals (Glaze & Bonczar, 2011).
There are two major types of individuals involved in the probation and parole category: those involved in overseeing and observing the convicts who have been released from the prison, however, are still under observation, either due to their past record or the nature of their crime (Lyons & Jermstad, 2013). The other category is involved in working with the parolees; whole have succeeded in getting and early yet supervised release from the prison (Phillips, 2013). Thus, the profession holds immense importance in maintenance of the law and order situation in the area, and the same must be properly studied in order to bring about improvement in the social and judicial position prevailing in the society (Kerbs, Jones & Jolley, 2009).
