ABSTRACT

This research paper presents an analysis of a qualitative and quantitative variable. Gender and Extrinsic job satisfaction employees” variable have been included in the analysis. Results showed that job satisfaction level of employees due to extrinsic factors was higher since only few employees reported medium level of job satisfaction.

Introduction

The purpose of a measure of central tendency is to summarize in one number the typical value or the most representative of a result set. There are different measures of central tendency. The best known methods to measure the central tendency of the data include arithmetic mean, mode, and the median. Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion provides a basis for conducting further tests in order to elaborate the characteristics of the data in quantitative terms (Creswell, 2009). This research paper examines the measure of central tendency and dispersion for the two variables selected from the data file showing results of employee satisfaction level measurement survey of Marcs and Spancer Company.

Selected Variables

In order to analyze the measure of central tendency and dispersion for this research paper, two variables have been included in the analysis. Two variables have been included from the data file showing survey measures on job satisfaction of employees working in the M&C company in this study. One is measured as a continuous variable, whereas another variable is measured on a nominal scale.

Theories placed emphasis on job satisfaction through extrinsic rewards and performance as the end goal. There is a belief that a number of facets are part of a larger model that explains work production and employee satisfaction (Jackson, 2008). Therefore, it is essential to examine the differences in the job satisfaction of employees through extrinsic factors based on gender differences.

These include “Extrinsic job satisfaction” as continuous variable and the “gender of the respondent” as nominal variable. “Extrinsic job satisfaction” is a continuous variable measuring the satisfaction level of employees on a Likert scale of 1-7 due to continuity in the respondent's responses. However, “Gender” of the variable shows nominal characteristics elements that define the qualitative variable properties. In contrast, variable measuring the extrinsic job satisfaction level of employees is quantitative in nature because it is measuring the employee satisfaction in quantitative terms.
