Although he wasn't the first president to be assassinated publicly, the public were heartbroken since he clearly had a most promising career ahead of him, as well as being an instigator of bringing in family values to politics through his large, friendly and politically inclined family. A ten month investigation was launched by the Warren Commission following his assassination, and it was concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was the killer, and that he acted alone in order to assassinate the then-president. However, that's not to say there aren't conspiracies about the killing of Kennedy, since many people still believe that it was an inside job and that opposition leaders paid or encouraged Lee Harvey Oswald to kill him.
