IT Papers Assessment

Introduction

The Global Management Journal is the one which I have chosen for the analysis and presentation of an in-depth review answering the questions which have been asked in the question paper. Moreover, as a general introduction, all the topics are related to the information technology or information systems and are covering a number of different aspects related to the knowledge management aspects; multicultural analysis as per women IT workforce viewpoint; the motivational factors which are determining the turnover decisions of IS workforce, and finally a comparative study highlighting the aspects of off-shore software development to enhance the interaction between developer team and user.

Discussion

Common Cause

The papers, which I have chosen for the presentation of coherent ideas, are related to the use of information systems for explaining a number of IT related application in four different scenarios thereby showing us the true potential of information systems and their applicability. Three out of four papers are related to the implications of IS on various human resource management grounds.

The very first paper, which was analysed, had knowledge management as the core theme for analysing the behavioural characteristics of contemporary organization. Moreover, it has provided a model for future analysis. It has also made use of the effect of leadership style has been studied based on the interpersonal trust.

The second paper is related to the cultural constraints for women in IT workforce. The paper has assessed numerous factors, which impacts the women career path in the domain of IT workforce. The third paper has addressed the cross-cultural impact on the IT industry. The paper has also examined a total of ninety-seven turnover episodes to provide a coherent outcome using Hofstede theory. The paper has included interviews of 35 IS professional belonging to Singapore and New Zealand in order to authenticate the findings of the paper.

The last paper is comparatively different from the previous three papers and have shown the applicability of inclusion of virtual teams in off-shore oil well. This has provided us with a different perspective of incorporating software projects using computer mediated communication.

Something Amiss

While analyzing all the four papers carefully and thoroughly, a number of discrepancies are observed. The first paper fails to render its usefulness to the western culture. Moreover, the study was also based on the MBA students of Eastern china which has made its implementation on the scale of industries quite doubtful. The paper was mostly based on Chinese culture, which was mostly followed using Yang's cultural theory, and only glimpses of Hofstede were presented during hypothesis testing of paper.

The paper having women IT workforce has given ample literature on various countries but has failed to address the issue on the regional perspective. The study could be much better by the ...
