Many computers are linked with each other in a computer network in order to ensure the communication between them this networking allows the sharing of files and peripherals such as printers, modems, CD-Rom or tape backup drives. In computer networking, these computers are connected at various locations and use services that are provided by the phone companies for the connection (Yeshi, n.d.). People can also send their emails, conduct video conferencing or share links to the worldwide internet in real time with another distant users. With the help of online collaboration software, network can be managed and handled properly when the network turns into open sourced. For the purpose of accomplishing core business operations, business organizations rely on applications such as database management and electronic mail. Thus, computer networking turns out to be more and more essential (Yeshi, n.d.).

There are various different networking and computing technologies. Some of these technologies are emerging today whereas some are well proven and some are quite experimental. Some technologies are maturing, some are becoming obsolete and some have become vital to use (International Technical Support Organization Raleigh Center, 2004).
