Executive Summary
British American Tobacco (BAT) is a large global organization and competing in all regions of the worlds. It is, therefore, very important to realize and understand the importance of Information Technology that will play a vital role to facilitate the company to further reduce its cost and production cycle as well as efficiently manage the global operations. In fact, a robust IT infrastructure will enable organization to manage its knowledge management systems, improve product development processes, market products with minimized cost and educate customer in better fashion as well as collecting feedback from them as most of the innovative ideas come from customers.
Information technologies will also help BAT to raise entry barriers and gain a competitive state of advantage in the industry. In addition, successful management of IT at BAT will also increase organization's capabilities to handle and manage change and address the issues of existing or future threats. British American Tobacco plc (BAT) is one of the global leaders in the tobacco industry. It is the holding company of British American Tobacco Group of companies. It is engaged in the manufacturing, distribution and sale of tobacco products. The company offers wide range of cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, roll-your-own tobacco, and smokeless snuffs through more than 300 national and international brands. BAT along with its associates produces 919 billion cigarettes through 49 cigarette factories in 41 countries. Out of all these facilities, four facilities and two separate plants also make cigars, roll their own and pipe tobacco (Amran, 2004, pp.32-42).
