Available facts and numbers on the Palestinian Refugee and replaced community is distinuished by uneven value and doubt mainly due to the nonattendance of a comprehensive registration scheme. Flapan, 2007) The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) administer the only registration system for Palestinian refugees. UNRWA records, although, only encompass those refugees replaced in 1948 (and their descendents) in need of aid and established in UNRWA areas of operation - West Bank, Gaza narrow piece, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Estimates of the refugee and replaced population may furthermore be drawn from statistics sustained by the agency of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); census facts and figures from owner countries and Israel; and, community development projections.

It is approximated that there were more than 7 million Palestinian refugees and replaced individuals at the starting of 2003. This encompasses Palestinian refugees replaced in 1948 and listed for aid with the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) (3.97 million); Palestinian refugees replaced in 1948 but not listed for aid (1.54 million); Palestinian refugees replaced for the first time in 1967 (753,000); 1948 internally replaced Palestinians (274,000); and, 1967 internally replaced Palestinians (150,000). (Childers, 2008) Between 1948 and the mid-1950s Israel expelled round fifteen percent of the Palestinian community that stayed after the war. By 1967 it had expropriated half of the land owned by Palestinian people of the state. Israel deported more than 6,000 Palestinians from 1967 occupied Palestine between 1967 and the early 1990s (Alwaya, 2009)
