A 'fad' is anything that becomes trendy and stays in vogue with high enthusiasm over a certain time period. It is usually short-lived. “Management Fad” is a belittling term used subjectively to describe a recently occurring change in the operations or philosophy of a business, usually implemented by the senior management. There are a number of management fads that have been observed (and followed with great zeal) in the 20th century, such as BPR (Business Process Reengineering), MBO (Management by Objectives), 360-degree feedback, and TQM (Total Quality Management) (Marchese, 1993).
