The aim of this writing assignment is to discuss and analyze the cause and effect of corporal punishment on children. Corporal punishment is referred to a physical punishment in which intentional physical pain in inflicted as a punishment for an offence. It is done to enforce discipline among children but there have been seen varied effects of this. The committee of United Nation on children's rights has regarded it against the basic rights of children. It is of the view that Corporal punishment should not be given to children. In 49 states of America, corporal punishment for children to enforce discipline is against the law. According to the survey which was conducted in the year 200 across the United States, all the parents considered it an evil practice (Straus & Kantor, 1994). Corporal punishment has been banned in more than 42 countries. However, it is legal in some parts of the world. Numerous agencies have been established all over the world to end the brutality of corporal punishment for children. Corporal punishment is illegal and should be banned in the remaining parts of the world.

Various researchers and erudite have criticized corporal punishment considering its drastic repercussions on children. Corporal punishment has various adverse effects on children such as lowered self-esteem, depression and heightened anxiety. There are various evidences which suggest that excessive corporal punishment can exacerbate psychological harm to children. It has been argued that enforcing discipline through corporal punishment conveys the message that violence is a way to settle differences. Corporal punishment is degrading and psychologically harmful to the children. It further spoils the children and they become used to it. It shatters their confidence and courage. Corporal punishment associated with subsequent childhood aggression, antisocial demeanor, and poor value of adult child connections. Documented situations of student wound as the result of school-inflicted corporal penalty. Use of punishment methods, encompassing corporal punishment, does not educate befitting replacement behaviors.
