Q1)

Characteristics of qualitative data

Qualitative data is generally in forms of words that is mainly gathered through secondary sources, and for observation through different data collection tools like interviews, surveys, and others.

Qualitative data helps researcher in formatting a relationship with observed individual and past history of the research topic

Quantitative data generally comprises of numerical figures that can be acquired through diversified sources.

Quantitative data is more often than not large in dimensions, and are very complex for the researcher to analyze this data.

Q2)

Time

Time plays a vital role in the outcome of the research project, which means that researcher either look back in time to get their answers, or look forward for the solution of current problem. Time in research is divided into three different concepts (Brink & Wood,1998).

Retrospective

In this researcher, analyze the situation that has occurred in the past, and in this type of research design research is aware of the dependent variable but tries to find out the possible factors or independent variable that have resulted in the outcome of the problem for example (research on historical topics, personalities and others)

Prospective design

This type of research design generally focus on the variables that will have an impact on the result of the study for example studies in which research is doing an experiment, or analyzing the particular situation for the longer period (Brink & Wood,1998).

Longitudinal design

this type of design is normally used to define a prospective study in which researcher is analyzing a group of people for longer period for example research on the behavior of people born in 18th century, working life style of UK families with USA families and others.

Location
