Interview with a Professor at Nursing School

On 30th of September, we have a scheduled interview with Professor Norman Hill. We want to discuss with him his professional role and the preparation needed for the role. He is a professor at the Fortis Institute of Nursing. The Fortis Institute is a National school that provides education for a variety of allied health care fields. He currently teaches Med surgical nursing for the LVN (licensed vocational nurses at his facility.) Norman has been a LVN for and a registered nurse for two and is currently working on his masters in nursing education which he will finish in December of this year.

Preparation

Either a master's degree in nursing or a doctoral degree shall have been held by full-time and part-time nursing faculty in RN programs. The education of faculty should take account of preparation of graduate in the science of nursing, engrossing clinical practice, and preparation of graduate in teaching and learning, that include development of curriculum and its implementation. Preparation of Norman includes reviewing various nursing journals for updated content and the med surgical book in which he teaches from. One of the requirements Norman states that a nurse educator need is a love for teaching. He states that students can detect when a teacher is not enthusiastic about teaching and their willingness to learn decreases when they detect this. In addition, He states that being prepared for lecture is crucial to maintain students' attention. He states that if the students feel that the professor or teacher is unprepared then they will lose confidence in the teacher and the material that is being presented.
