The main purpose of this paper is to make an analysis on the interview conducted with the suspect, and describe the ways through which the interview is not a good and effective interview. The paper makes the evaluation for the interview on the basis of the different theories. This is the reflection of the comparison between: theoretical interviewing model (Reid Model) and conversation model (PEACE).
Part 1: Comparison between Reid and PEACE model
Following is the comparison between the Reid and PEACE model:
Reid Technique
The method of questioning, an interrogation technique favoring the admission is widespread through the medium of the Reid Technique using the polygraph developed by Reid, a former U.S. inspector and his assistants. The Reid Technique comprises the steps of the interview and interrogation. We start with the "behavioral analysis interview during which we check if the suspect lying or not by observing its behavior. If it turns out, according to his behavior that "the suspect ment", we go to the second step in an interrogation. It was during the latter having destabilized the suspect in the insulation, it refers to evidence of his guilt and he explains the seriousness of the case (dramatization). On the other hand, we try to save face by showing that the suspect the cause of crime is minimal and the behavior of the victim or the environment (mitigation). This procedure is considered effective to eradicate the confession of a suspect who committed a crime (Kleinig, 1996, p. 45).
The Reid method is used by police forces around the world as it is one of the most simple and practical information of a person. Interestingly its simplicity also makes it applicable to everyday life situations. After working for decades for police conducting interrogations of New York, after specializing in social psychology and the use of polygraphs as judicial tools, John Reid found that the most effective way to get information from a person is subjecting it to various conditions that unbalance their rational mechanisms of response and, consequently, induce into a state of self-defense which promotes and encourages the "instinctive responses". That is, hasty responses easy to deny and to analyze and for which one can verify that is what someone conceals, why does even force him to tell the truth (Gibbons, 2001, p. 24).
This part of the hearing is organized into nine steps, and aims to uncover the truth, i.e. to bring the culprits to confession. The 9 steps of the Reid method are:
1: Direct confrontation: Convey to suspect that held evidence undoubtedly lead to him, and that the purpose of the hearing is not whether he committed the offense but to know his motives.
2: The development of the theme: The theme of the development will offer an apology to the moral suspect in order to minimize the suspect's guilt.. Here the goal is to get the first nod of a suspect. Topics should change during the hearing to find one that fits to the ...
