Interview
Introduction
The historical timeline after the middle Ages is defined with the help of the concept of Modern History. 16th century primarily marks the beginning of the Modern Era (Dunan, 1964). People who belong to a certain time of history can provide with better insights that will aid in better understanding the modern American history. One way to preserve the personal experiences of any person is with the help of recording an oral history narrative. This assignment is prepared with an objective to conduct an interview of an elder person who can provide in the light of his experiences, new learning and knowledge regarding the American history.
Discussion
In order to gain a better understanding of the modern American history, I have decided to record an oral history in the form of an interview with one of the persons who are elder than me and have witnessed a number of events that took place in the American history.
Interviewee and his selection
Selecting an interviewee for the oral history narrative task seems to be a big deal because each person interprets the events of the history according to his or her own level of understanding. After taking into account three to four personalities, I have decided to interview Mr. Jackson, who is an immigrant in America from Southern Europe and has faced a number of challenges in adjusting with the culture and values of the country.
The reason for selecting Mr. Jackson for this interview is based on the ground that Modern American history has got great contribution from the immigration of people in the form of birth of number of external factors. In addition to it, the immigrants also faced a great deal of hurdles in getting a place in this new country. So, in the light of all these facts Mr. Jackson seem to be an appropriate interviewee for the completion of this IP assignment.
Type of Questions asked from Mr. Jackson
Before highlighting the type of questions that I have asked Mr. Jackson at the time of interview, the points below highlight some of the important considerations that were taken into account before the interview:
A comfortable location (away from noise and distraction) was selected.
The questions were phrased in an open-ended manner so that the answers provided by interviewee will give an insight about his personal experiences
The questions that were asked in the interview are tinted as follows:
In which year you have migrated to America?
What were the basic reasons for this immigration?
What were the reasons for selecting America as a nation where you can spend the rest of your life?
What challenges you faced being an immigrant to this State?
How you see the immigration policies that were present at the time you have migrated and the current immigration policies that are prevailing in the State?
