Introduction

The movie Wimbledon is directed by Richard Loncraine, a British television and film director. Richard received his early training in the department of features in the BBC, where he directed a whole season of a show named “Tomorrow's World”, before beginning his carrier as a director, Richard use to be a sculptor designer. In the year 1996 Richard won the Silver Bear for the Best director and the forty seventh Berlin film festival for his work on Richard III. In Wimbledon Richard has beautifully presented the fading image of a tennis player, who decides to take a gamble at the Wimbledon tournament, and decides that this will be his last chance ever to play on the court at an international event as he is growing older, while he is physically still very fit.

Discussion

Wimbledon is totally filled with dry English humor, quick wit, and fantastically directed tennis matches. Over all it is a great movie to watch. Following are the list of leading character of the movie (Murray. R, 2004).

Peter Colt is the leading character in the movie, who plays the role of a thirty two year old tennis player, he was ranked 11th in the 90's but now it is the future his rank has fallen far behind, as he is now ranked 119, so, Peter decides to give himself a last chance and play his carriers last ever Wimbledon tournament, against much more younger boys than him.

Another character of the movie is Paul Bettany, who plays his role with a lot of grace and beauty, and makes it impossible for the people to feel his charm. In this movie he mostly take the back-seat and is seen in the supporting role throughout the whole film.

Lizie plays the role of a young and strong head American tennis player, who during the tournament falls in love with Paul Colt. Her character was quite witty and self-assured.

Jon, plays the role of Peter Colt's coach in the movie, he is a typical and a sleazy businessman. He performs his role so well that it is impossible to avoid his performance in the movie. He plays an extremely important part in motivating Peter and prepares him for one of the biggest tournament ever that Peter will play in his life.

The importance of the character of Jake Hammond can never be neglected; Jake is the person against whom Peter has to play the final match of his tennis carrier. Jake is an arrogant and proud America tennis player.

There is a time in the movie when Peter Colt starts to lose his confidence and concentration toward the game, due to the misunderstandings between him and Lizzie. It is this time when anxiety starts to grow inside the mind of Peter and he starts to lose his confidence. Just before playing the final tennis match of his life, strange thoughts starts to develop inside the mind of Peter regarding his counterpart Jake Hammond, who is an arrogant and a proud ...
