INTERNSHIP REPORT

Internship Report

During my internship period, I have been assigned to prepare an electrical and architectural drafting drawing which was done by the help of CAD (Computer Aided Design) program. It was quite an uphill task which has demanded undivided attention along with sincere efforts during my internship stay. Moreover, the stay was quite learning and also enthusiastic in the sense that I came across various Building Codes of Australia (BCA) instructions. Although, for drawing the schematics, I have to take permission from the council of construction before proceeding further onwards. Moreover, the regulations of BCA were a source of inspiration for me as I did not know much about them in detail. Moreover, the standards also made me realize about various standards including the ISO (International Organization for Standardization), ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), AHRI (Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute) and NASH (National Association of Steel-framed Housing) standards; some of which are quite widely followed. I have also understood the technicalities behind all these standards having core focus on ISO and ASTM standards. For the in-depth analysis of various standard s, I have worked my way across ISO 140, ISO 717 and ISO 8336 which are related to the acoustics, ash fusibility as well as a flat sheet made of fibre (Iso.org, 2008; Iso.org, 2013; Iso.org, 2009). On the ASTM grounds ASTM E72-80 and ASTM E695-79 are my core concerns which has greatly enhanced my knowledge related to the standard for strength as well as computing the relative resistance of floor, wall and roof as far as impact loadings are under consideration (Astm.org, N.d.; Astm.org, 1997). In order to safeguard the sustainability of the infrastructure, strictly following the standards is a must.

I had also encountered real-time customer dealing when a client came up with a query of building and construction of a warehouse. However, due to the absence of our manager, I have to deal with the client myself. I have asked that he has to get the certification from the BCA in order to proceed further onwards. Moreover, the problem is that the when the inspector inspected the warehouse, he found it against the acts EF 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3. Which are directly related to the threat for the personnel against various health and safety issue concerning the staircases and emergency evacuations. These were the serious lapse on the side of client and had been the sole cause of inability to fulfill the expectations of the inspector. Moreover, another problem is related to the old and rusty infrastructure of the warehouse. Although, on inspection, subsequent maintenance and uplifting cost are quite huge. Take an example of a warehouse having no safety corridors and staircases, in cases of fire and other emergencies, the personnel would not have a safety passage for going along. On the return of our manager, I have discussed the technicalities of the problems incurred due to the lack of compliance. Additionally I have also made him know about my that day's progress ...
