This part discusses in details “what Internet of Things” (IoT) is. It discusses the potential of IoT for businesses, problems and drawbacks of IoT and the future of IoT. It also recommends a strategy to help the organisation have IoT.

This part summarises the key findings and recommendations related to the given analysis.

Part 1: Introduction: Background of Amazon.com

Amazon.com is a publicly-held company. It is the biggest internet retailer in the world and in the America. Continued expansion of Amazon.com, its innovation, and strong branding has kept it well positioned. Amazon has set the definition of excellence in online business. Amazon.com has gone to great lengths to perfect Customer Relationship Management. When in 1995, Amazon stated its aim was just to be the largest online bookstore. Since then, it has become much more. If one looks at its original Web site (see Figure 1) and the current home page (Figure 2), he/she can notice that much has changed. Amazon.com has added music, electronics, toys, and even garden stores.

Amazon did not, however, limit its expansion to selling other items. It also added an online auction area; this is another way to draw people into the store. Amazon also has branched out into other business models—for example, collaborating with brick-and-mortar companies such as Sotheby's Auction House. All this is possible because Amazon has made the customer experience its highest goal. One of the primary components in making this work is giving customers a personalized experience and having them walk away (or click away, in this case) feeling positive about it. (Paul 2007, 66)

Business History

In 1994, Jeff Bezos started Amazon.com. While working on Wall Street, he saw the potential of the Internet and its use for commercial purposes. The next year, he started the “Earth's biggest bookstore” in his garage in Seattle, Washington. The first products were books, and after the store was online, the first customers were his friends.
