Internet

Internet can be defined as a universal platform where all computer networks are connected to each other and use a similar standardized internet protocol suit commonly known as TCP or IP in order to reach to people allover the world. Internet forms a network within the networks, which is comprised of various billions and million of government, business, public, private and academic networks both local and global. All these networks are linked via technology that supports all kind of electronic, wireless and optical networks. Internet transmits extremely widespread array of informative reserves and assistances in form of intertwined hypertext credentials belonging to World Wide Web or commonly known as www. It also provides essential structure to support email functionality (Consalvo, M. & Ess, C., 2010, p. 11-83).

Internet has essentially changed the world of communication, previously the invention and means of communication like TV, Radio, music, telephonic conversation was considered as a blessing but today, Internet has simply enhanced and advanced the use of each and every invention in the world. Internet brought the concept of voice over Internet protocol or VoIP and Internet protocol Television or IPTV. Internet has place for every kind of communication media such as newspaper are appearing as online news, blogs or articles, Academic works are being published more on internet rather than taking form of books or journals. Internet is highly preferred by people to communicate and make conversations such as voice chat, text chat or video chat. Businesses are utilizing Internet tact to market their product by using social media sites such as online shopping, eBay, Facebook etc.

Growth of Internet

The Internet has made great contribution to economic activities worldwide. Internet is growing at a rate, which is remarkable, worldwide. It tends to contribute towards growth, productivity and employment within an economy. The figure below helps depict the usage rate of Internet continent wise (Internet World Stats, 2012).



The distribution shows that how Internet is being utilized by the world and which area of the world is utilizing the Internet facilities the most. Asia is the largest consumer of the Internet utilities as depicted by the figure. According to a recent survey, up to March 2012 around 2280 million users are using Internet, which makes a percentage of around 32.7% of world's population. This percentage was 30.2% with 2095 millions of users worldwide just a year back in March 2011. This depicts the growth rate of Internet usage globally. Moving on, the next figure depicts the average millions of users around the world with Asia again taking a lead (Internet World Stats, 2012).
