Climate Change and International Relations Theory:

Northeast Asia as a Case Study

Introduction

This paper attempts to elaborate the border relationship between climatic change and theory of international relation. This paper examines the political situation of Northeast Asian political surroundings from the perspective of three main international relation theories- constructivism, realism and liberalism. Past study suggest that multilateral agreement, states may vary their considerate their connection with other states that help them to understand their own identities (Habib, 2011). The climatic change will need not simply a reorientation of local state perception of each other except considerate the place of human societies of the natural world.

Background

In the Northeast Asia, there is an evidence of prominent increases in the intensity of many extreme events such as tropical cyclones, heat waves, intense rainfall, prolonged dry spells, thunderstorms and severe dust in the area. Such acts increase the risk and for already vulnerable communities to achieve sustainable development. Study indicates that 50% of world total damage occurs due to the natural disasters in the last century (Reuveny, 2007). Therefore, change in climate poses a severe dominate and create additional threats to the farmers in their way of living. People affect most that lives in mountains, deserts, and dry land and limited natural resources. Past studies indicates that global general problems such as global warming and ozone depletion became a salient in international affairs (Reuveny, 2007). There are several monographs also begin to produce a multi-theoretical action of the surroundings in international relations or extended the realm international theory to comprise concept such as difficulty from other discipline (Habib, 2011). North East Asia interaction between the weather change and international relation conjecture. It is necessary to understand that the climatic change heavily effect the region.

Issues

Agriculture and Food Security

It is estimated that 50 million people will be at risk of hunger by year 2020. North East Asia expects to grow food uncertainty due to change in climate along with ecological poverty directly attributes to the activity of human growth. Study indicates that when average temperature rise above in North East Asian Region then it depress crop yields across the region (Habib, 2011). Adverse impact of climatic change is to compromise the ability of North East Asian regions to produce sufficient and large food production. Low production drive up the cost of food and increase in import of these countries. This results Northeast Asian states transfer their social and political water scarcity problems and insecurity of food.

Hydrology and Water Sources

Changes in climate are expected to modify the availability of resources in a couple of centuries due to season increase and decrease of rainfall in a region of Southeast Asia. Study indicates that glaciers, etched in Himalayas results projected increase in flooding also affect the resource of water (Buzan &Wæer, 2003). The change of climate in Northeast Asia is making this region monsoon and increases the magnitude and frequency of drought and extreme precipitation ...
