Introduction to organization

A research based, British multinational pharmaceutical, discovery and creation based, vaccines, biologics and a consumer health care company having its headquarter in the United Kingdom, GlaxoSmithKline was rated as the fourth largest health care and pharmaceutical company in the year 2009. The company was founded in 2000 as a result of merger between GLaxo Wellcome plc (and was actually founded by the acquisition of Wellcome plc by Glaxo plc) and SmithKline Bechaam plc (was actually formed by the merger of SmithKline Beckman Corporation and Bechaam plc, which was formed by uniting the SmithKline French and Beckman Companies). The portfolio products of GlaxoSmithKline consisted of major medicines which cope up with major diseases such as cancer, virus control, infections, mental health, diabetes, asthma and certain digestive conditions (Jahn, 2007, pp. 369-272). GlaxoSmithKline also deals in huge consumer health care division that produces and market nutritional products and drinks, oral health care products and over the counter medicines also; which includes its best seller products such as; Horlicks, Sensodyne, Boost, Ribena, and Lucodaze.

GlaxoSmithKline was finally come into being on December 2000, when Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline revealed their intention to merge in the month of January, 17th same year and followed acceptance of essential regulatory approvals. Moreover in 2001, the organization had completed the acquisition of New Jersey founded block drug. Later in 2002, the main GlaxoSmithKline house located in Brantford London was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister Tony Blair as GSK's official world head quarter. The GSK head quarter's building houses around three thousand employees and was built at a cost of around three hundred million United Kingdom pounds. In the next year the company made a change in their major portfolio products and froze the HIV and Aids drugs prices which helped in assistance to the drug program which was opposing funding shortfalls (Jahn, 2007, pp. 369-272). Later in October 2006, GSK's acquisitions doesn't stopped here they acquire a United State's based consumer health care company CNS Inc. whose major products includes; consumer health care products includes FiberChoice Dietary Choice Supplements and Breathe Right Nasal Strips for the patients of asthma at a cost of US dollar five hundred and sixty six million in cash (Jahn, 2007, pp. 369-272).
