Introduction

The purpose of interior designing is to convert a space into an effective area that serves the purpose of the activities to be performed in the space. A person who conducts projects defined by the earlier definition is called the interior designer. In the given assignment, the project to be undertaken is to change a children's bespoke play into an adult dining area. This space has to be both sophisticated and elegant (Kirilovs, 2009, p. 77). The purpose of the change in the interior design of the space is that the couple who owns the house wants to sell it. Dealers and real estate agents realized after repeated trials for sales that it was the children's bespoke play which people did not like. This was becoming a hindrance in the house's sale. The house was otherwise admired for its grandeur, planning and interior design. Hence, the interior design of the new space has to be synched with the rest of the house. There are no budget constraints.

The project is an interesting one in that it has a lot of scope of performance. Looking at the children's bespoke play room the interior designer has come up with the following plan for interiors design as per the client brief. A residential design specialist has been hired to make the changes to the selected space. The designer will keep the needs, wants and ideas of the couple and the owner of the house at the center of all the plans and all the changes that he will be making.

Role and function of the interior designer relating to the design process

The role of an interior designer in any project is to apply the science human behavior to any residential or commercial project. This must be applied to the intended function. A professional interior designer is one who takes into consideration the budgets of the client. Also finding the right contractors for the right job and scheduling of jobs is the responsibility of the interior designer (Brainard, 1997, p. 65). Right from the start of the project whereby the project will begin with the removal of slides through to the very end of the project, the interior designer working on the project will be monitoring the project. This overseeing the job and watching over the whole project takes place on a daily basis.

The couple has been wise enough to hire an interior designer who has been working with a professional organization which also has a very god reputation in the market. The choices of the project will be made by the interior designer (Jacobs, 2005, p. 1889). However, in the implementation of these choices, the designer will seek the approval of the couple.
