Introduction

Instructional based techniques have made it easier for teachers to manage students in a more effective manner. Also, the teaching method relies on the development of critical thinking skills, mathematics skills etc. Instructional based learning helps the teachers to increase the sense of responsibility that they have towards their studies. Hence, this leads to a positive effect on their academic progress and their learning in the classroom. This paper studies five different recently published peer-reviewed articles on the subject in order to analyze the effects of instructions practice on students' academic progress.

Discussion

In the article “The role of teacher instructional practices in student collaboration”, the authors emphasize that schools that follow a standard-based curriculum are able to provide students with high level learning (McCaffrey et al., 2001, p. 493). They are able to do this by aligning the curriculum with an array of instructional practices. In such a setting, teachers take the help of proved and tested instructional practices that are specifically tailored to engage students in the learning process (McCaffrey et al., 2001, p. 493). This way, the students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own academic progress and learning. The students are also provided clear expectations by their teacher. Through student collaboration, group learning, diversity, and problem solving, they are able to apply the knowledge and concepts in real and even learn to imitate their classroom experiences.

The authors also explains that certain instructional practices have been very popular among teachers because of their effectiveness in high level learning (McCaffrey et al., 2001, p. 493). For example, problem based solving and culturally responsive teaching are two methods that are commonly used by teachers. In a similar manner, collaborative learning experiences and self-directed learning are also proven methods that teachers have used to great effect in the classroom setting (McCaffrey et al., 2001, p. 493). As there is increasing demand to improve the standard of education in the US, the government has sought to spend billions of dollars for the purpose of aiding students meet their learning objectives and improve their academic performance (McCaffrey et al., 2001, p. 493).

In the article “An evaluation of the relative effectiveness of NCTM standards-based interventions for low-achieving urban elementary students”, Ginsburg-Block & Fantuzzo (1998, p. 563) explain that the federal government of the US continues to spend virtually billions of dollars in money on education simply to improve the standard of education in schools.
