Short Account of Eliana's Progress

The child under discussion, Eliana Martinez, belongs to a Mexican origin family who has been living in the United States of America since 1998. The family comprises of the Eliana, her parents, a younger sister and a grandmother. Eliana had been admitted into the bilingual classes when she got into the school in the US, and has been under constant assessment and training since then.

Taking into account Eliana's history and her account of school tenure in the US, she has been reported by her teachers as being deteriorating year by year and semester by semester. Her assessment and observations from the grade she first attended here and to the current one she studies in reflect that Eliana had been high on the Language Assessment Scores in Spanish during the initial years. However, the tests and assessments conducted recently depict that her performance has dropped to lower percentiles even in the Language Assessment Test conducted in Spanish.

Recommendations for the Teachers

Observing the reports of teachers and various observation made by instructors, Eliana seems to enjoy reading and writing on topics of her interests but not the academic ones. The teachers are hence, advised to try and change the aspects of writing and reading for Eliana. She might be handled in a way which encourages her to write whatever she feels interested in and making her think she is not being forced or coerced. Giving her the freedom of writing what she wants to pen about will provide her with the confidence that what she thinks and imagines about is not bad or out of ordinary. According to the teachers she seems interested in stories of her hometown and fairy tales; teachers can work with Eliana to write out a story of her hometown or favorite fairy tale character and teach her the skills of writing while teaching her the skills of writing. The same can be applicable and true for the reading progress and growth of Eliana. Teachers should encourage her in reading stories more and more (Mcclure & Taylor, 2010).
