Inpatient Services

Introduction

The nursing leaders play an important role in supporting nurses and for improving health care environments (Shirey, 2006). Nursing Leaders can help in making a satisfying organizational culture by motivating their staff, enhancing their morale, and performance of their junior groups (Faila & Stichler, 2008). Nursing leaders have multiple roles in the society as well as in the integration of advanced nursing practice in healthcare settings. This integration is a continuous process, which involves communication, management of staff and their system. They provide support to individuals and create networks with physicians and other members of the healthcare system.

The nursing leaders support in providing quality care, safety of patients, and staff job satisfaction (Ulrich, Lavandero, Hart, Woods, Leggett, & Friedman. 2009). A failure to make cultures of engagement may lead staff to feel unsupported in their work place. There is seen better staff retention, when they feel supported by their nurse leader. (Kramer & Schmalenberg, 2007). The biggest issue these nursing leaders are facing is securing of sustainable funding and the provision of resources. The changing demographics of the US population and the increased incidence of chronic diseases would create more opportunities for nurse practitioners.
