Introduction
Sex is an important facet of our lives. Sexual wellbeing comprises person's physical, mental and emotional well-being. This report will analyze the factors due to which sex is neglected in the patients who are suffering with mental issues. The aim of this report is to improve the understanding of the nurses regarding the patients who are facing mental problems. What can be done to improve the regulation of sex related behaviour in mental patients in the acute wards in the UK? Further, this report will propose a training seminar for mental health care nurses who will educate them on sexual health of the people, who are facing mental issues, through which they can effectively treat those patients and discuss about their sexual health. Sexual health of the mental care patients who are in the acute wards is being neglected. This report will analyze the factors and suggest recommendation to improve the sexual health of those patients. Clinical governance strategies and theories regarding this problem in the mental health care patients have also been discussed to further highlight the consequences of this problem. . The results of the review provide guidance to mental health professionals and mental health nurses wishing to develop and evaluate sexual health education programmes for the patients of mental health care in acute wards of the UK.
Sexual health of mental health patients
In the past years, there has been a significant increase in the cases of sexually transmitted diseases such as, HIV, Chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhoea. The health department of the UK has identified that people suffering with mental illness are more prone to become victim of problems related to their sexual health due to their lack of understanding about the patterns and information regarding sexual health problems. Furthermore, the study conducted by the health department depicts that a few mental health care patients have knowledge about the diseases and complications associated with their sexual health. Moreover, mental health care nurses and mental health professionals can play their active role in minimizing the risks associated with the sexual health of mental care patients. There is a dire need of training seminars and programs which can empower and equipped them to address the sexual health issues which mental health care patients are facing.
